Nomalanga (Nomi) Eniafe

Nomalanga Eniafe (Nomi) was born in the lights of the great city of Nashville, Tennessee. Dance has always been a part of her chemical makeup. Nomi became addicted to the stage at the ripe age of 3 when she entered her first Young Miss Pageant. She competed in pageants for seven years and toured surrounding states holding the Young Miss Crown. During her high school and college years at David Lipscomb, Nomi knew that dancing and healing through movement was her destiny. She always stayed within the stage and the lights. Through these years, African dance found her, and she learned the true meaning behind the quote, "Dancing with your feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another." Nomi trained with Uhuru Dance Company under the instruction of Karen Roberts for three years. She then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and toured with Terah Israel and The Djembe All-Stars for five years. She traveled to surrounding cities "edutaining" by sharing drum rhythms and dance throughout this time. Nomi performs movements based on traditional African dance forms. Her teaching style and regime are designed to bring forth new life and new energy through the power of rhythm and dance. Her students will form a new consciousness about themselves and traditional African culture.
